Layers range in thickness from 2 to 15 centimeters. Sharpening Stones Industry is a small family enterprise that began activity in Heraklion, Crete in 1898. The Founder Evangelos George Perakis had been born in the region where the stone is excavated (Elounta in Lasithi) that today constitutes part of the Municipality of Saint Nikolaos. He studied commerce in Constantinople and, having learned several foreign languages, he decided to open his first business in Heraklion.
